Aikido training is fun and a fantastic way to have a good time performing physical activity and meet new friends.
We understand that starting a martial art can be daunting. Don’t worry about how fit you are: we will teach you based on your current health and fitness. You do not have to master martial arts to have a good time learning them. With consistency, you will notice your progress and enjoy the learning journey. Our instructors are patient and will ensure you are not asked to perform techniques you are not yet ready for.
We appreciate that not everyone will consider Aikido a long-life practice, particularly young adults who may develop a preference for another sport later on; we accept that most students will come and go. Instead, we celebrate the benefits they gained from their time in the club.
We offer a social setting where we also go out for meals, courses and inter-club training, with events organised throughout the year. The club has links to organisations across the country and abroad.
The best way to find out more is to come along and join in. Remember, your first session is FREE.
Regular training should help you to improve your posture, core strength, balance, coordination, flexibility and fitness.
Moreover, most people find that regular Aikido training improves their self-confidence, self-esteem and mental well-being.
The core of the art comprises a system of connecting and blending with the opponent/partner (uke) and taking their balance to use throws, joint locks and, if required, strikes. When well performed, the techniques do not need much physical strength to be efficient.
As it mainly uses the aggressor’s energy to their disadvantage, Aikido skills can be developed by men, women and children to counter aggressive situations ranging from unwanted harassment to armed physical assault.
However, we are realistic that martial arts are not magical, and our instructors will also emphasise how using de-escalation is often the best way to a peaceful conflict resolution, with physical conflict as the option of last resort.
Should you come for a FREE session or visit the club, we will gladly provide more details to help you understand how you can develop martial skills and have fun along the way.
